Dr. Barry Sears, the creator of Zone Diet , has purchased 5 units of Meridian's Digital Pulse Analyzer (DPA) specifically to use the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) software.
Sears intends to use the HRV software to non-invasively test for the presence of silent inflammation, announces a Meridian press release. Dr. Sears explains the relation between HRV and the presence of silent inflammation (inflammation below the threshold of perceived pain) in his latest book, “The Anti-Inflammation Zone”, that will be available in early January 2005.
Silent inflammation is believed to be a growing epidemic in America and the fundamental cause of major chronic diseases - such as heart disease, cancer, or Alzheimer's.
The HRV measures the variation in the length of the intervals between heart beats — in milliseconds. HRV is currently used as an indicator of illness and sudden cardiac death risk.
The DPA from Meridian Medical Inc. is a piece of medical equipment, FDA approved, used for measurement and analysis of the pulse waveform. The DPA performs the automatic analysis of PTG and APG.
The analysis of PTG prepares the information of heart function, arterial elasticity, dilations, resistance, etc. The analysis of APG does the same for arterial aging and is used for control of arterial-sclerosis and hypertension.
The DPA reads pulse wave information by irradiating infrared to fingertip or directly from EKG data.
“The Anti-Inflammation Zone” indicates how the Zone Diet can reverse silent inflammation and how decreased HRV may indicate the presence of silent inflammation.
